This is a biology course which
covers the state standards: Cell Biology, Genetics, Evolution, and Ecology.
Grades will be based on class work, projects, presentations, quizzes, tests and a final. My grading scale is the standard school grading scale.
90 - 100% =
A Grade Weighting
80 - 89% = B Tests/Quizzes 30%
70 - 79% = C Labs 25%
60 - 69% = D Homework/Classwork 15%
50% or less = F Projects 10%
Final Exam 20%
100%
Students are required to complete all assignments and projects on time. Late assignments are not accepted and will result in a "zero" for the given assignment, project, quiz or test. If a student is absent for any assignment or assessment, they are responsible for checking the homework folder upon returning to school. They will have 1 day for each missed day to make up any missed assignments, including quizzes or tests. Any graded assignment that is not made up within that time period will be given a "zero". This includes tests and quizzes. I will provide an alternate assignment for any lab that is missed.
Tutoring
I am always happy to give additional assistance to students who would like additional help. I am available every day except Thursdays after school from 2:15-3:05. To reserve a time, put your name on the tutoring sheet on the door.
Students will be expected to bring all materials to class every day. This includes:
3-ring notebook for
Biology
5 dividers: notes,
homework, labs, tests/quizzes, glossary
AR book
planner
In addition, students may also bring colored pencils, markers (except Sharpies), or highlighters to assist in note taking.
My classroom rules are as follows:
1. Be seated, prepared, and quiet when the last bell rings.
2. Remain in your seat unless called on/given permission to leave.
3. No food, gum or beverages other than water at any time. Water is allowed as long as it is in a
bottle that can be closed.
4. No cell phones, MP3 players or hats in class
5. Lab area is off limits unless doing a lab.
6. No flying objects.
7. Be respectful of other people and their property
8. Keep all hands, feet and objects to yourself.
9. Expect success (do more work than you expect from yourself)
10. If these standards are not met, the following are the consequences:
· a verbal warning
· a discussion with me, usually in the back of the class or outside, and a phone call home.
· a referral to ICR “SWEEP ROOM”
· a written referral to the office
*Severe infractions will result in an immediate office referral.
